LEARN

Today’s healthcare environment is challenging.  Entering the field – and navigating your way into opportunities for advancement –
can be just as challenging, especially early in your career.  You need access to peers and educational programs and activities that
can serve you throughout your entire professional life.

If you’re just entering the field, or beginning to move up the ladder, AHCLA will give you access to experienced healthcare leaders
and lifelong learning opportunities to develop your management and leadership skills throughout your career.  AHCLA's mentorship
and scholarship programs for students and young professionals will provide practical experience at leading healthcare
organizations.  Our leadership base of senior healthcare executives includes many individuals who have successfully transitioned
their clinical training and expertise into management roles, setting the pace for thousands of Asian-Americans to make the same
journey in the future.

I’ve enjoyed success in both the clinical and management sides of healthcare, and know how
critical it is for people with clinical and business expertise to fill the huge needs for executive
leadership. But while Asian-Americans make up a large share of the clinical side of the field,
we’re not represented on the management and leadership side like we should. AHCLA can
make a tremendous contribution to bringing these two areas together and demonstrating
the kinds of opportunities that are available to many Asian-Americans in the field.
– Alan Ying, MD, MBA, Chairman, Asterism, LLC

LEVERAGE

One contact with the right person can make all the difference in taking your career to a higher level.  AHCLA’s leaders understand
that mentoring and networking are critical to career advancement, especially once you’ve established yourself in the field.  AHCLA
membership will introduce you to people like yourself who’ve faced similar challenges and moved into top leadership positions in
our field.

AHCLA will increase the presence of Asian-Americans in healthcare and facilitate networking for its members.  It will highlight the
contributions of Asian-Americans in the industry and serve as an example of how to overcome cultural or institutional barriers.  The
personal, face-to-face connections with industry executives will be invaluable to your career growth.

As an Asian-American, I am both impressed by our upward mobility yet troubled by how many
of us are underserved by the healthcare system. AHCLA’s mission to serve as the leading
organization for Asian-American healthcare leadership and diversity is consistent with leading-edge
hospitals’ and health systems’ need to make diversity a central business strategy in reaching out
to and optimally serving their patients and their communities.
– Marilyn Chow, DNSc, RN, FAAN Vice President, Patient Care Services Kaiser Permanente

LEAD

Giving back - to our families, peers, and communities - is not only a privilege for many of us who’ve “made it,” it’s a priority.  AHCLA
offers an unprecedented opportunity for senior healthcare leaders to develop the next generation of leaders who will succeed us
and advance the industry.  To be a mentor and role model- professionally and in the Asian-American community - is what AHCLA
membership is all about.

As a senior executive who becomes part of AHCLA, you’ll also be connected to your peers, senior leaders from across the
healthcare field, ensuring you are part of an organization that will make a difference - not just in mentoring and professional
development, but in advancing healthcare institutions’ efforts to improve accountability and service to their communities.

In the little more than 30 years since I emigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines, I have had
so many opportunities to grow and flourish in my adopted country. Now, as a healthcare leader
and officer in the United States Navy, I am so proud to be able to share my experiences and
give back to people like me who aspire to the same opportunities I’ve had. AHCLA is so important
to Asian-Americans in the field because it introduces us to each other, and to other leaders across
the field, and helps us all grow and develop professionally as a result.
– Captain Don Albia, Medical Service Corps, United States Navy
